charles roy edmunds sergeant
Charles, son of Frederick Marsh Sergeant and Ellen Heffernan, transferred from the merchant marine into the Royal Navy Reserve and was appointed midshipman in 1917. He served on the armed merchantman Moldavia off the west coast of Africa first and then HMS Cumberland. After the end of WWI he served in the Arctic off the coast of Russia until being demobilised because of ill-health. He returned to service in the merchant marine.
